Functionally Gradient Tungsten Carbide Button

At the end of 1980s, Sweden produced functionally gradient tungsten carbide. Functionally gradient tungsten carbide has the surface of high wear resistance and high tenacity in the middle; it can improve the life expectancy of tungsten carbide button and promote rock drilling efficiency.

Sweden company Sandvik applied this method in making dual phase tungsten carbide, the grade includes DP55, DP60 and DP65 which the wear resistance and tenacity are higher than the conventional one. It can be used for crushing, rotary extrusion and rotary cutting drilling. It accounts for 30 percent in mining and drilling. Using functionally gradient tungsten carbide button can cut the drilling cost and promote efficiency greatly. For example, when drill the limestone tunnels, using the DP55 conical button the drill speed can reach 1.96m/min, the average drill limited distance is 3121m compared to the conventional one which the speed is only 1.48m/min and distance is 1000m.
