Yellow Tungsten Oxide Applied for Inorganic Electrochromic Material

Yellow tungsten oxide, or tungsten trioxide, is an inorganic electrochromic material. Wherein, tungsten trioxide powder can be mainly made into an electrochromic film of amorphous structure or of crystalline structure, and then be used to assemble electrochromic devices such as smart windows. So, do you know what the difference is between amorphous WO3 electrochromic film (a-WO3 film) and crystalline WO3 electrochromic film (c-WO3 film)?

Experts say that, in general, amorphous a-WO3 is produced at lower temperatures, and it can be converted into crystalline c-WO3 after it is heat-treated at a certain temperature. And the amorphous a-WO3 film has higher coloring efficiency and shorter response time than crystalline c-WO3 film. As you may have known, higher coloring efficiency and shorter response time are part of the higher requirements imposed by electrochromic devices on WO3 electrochromic materials. It means that amorphous WO3 electrochromic film is a better choice than crystalline WO3 electrochromic film for preparing an electrochromic device with excellent electrochromic performance.
