Yellow Tungsten Oxide Applied for Smart Glass

Yellow tungsten oxide, or tungsten trioxide, can be used to prepare a new type of smart glass for energy-saving buildings. Wherein, WO3 is first prepared into an electrochromic film. Specifically, some experts have prepared a tungsten trioxide nanostructure film with controllable morphology through a simple hydrothermal process, and the prepared WO3 has a hexagonal phase structure.

Experts say that the morphology of tungsten trioxide is controlled by changing the amount of urea in the precursor solution and the composition of the solvent. Vertically oriented rectangular nanorod arrays and cylindrical nanorod arrays can be obtained by adjusting the amount of urea added and the solvent composition, respectively. The vertically oriented nanorod array structure not only shortens the diffusion path of ions, but also facilitates sufficient contact of the electrolyte with the nanorods. Therefore, the electrochromic performance of WO3 is significantly improved. The experts introduced that tungsten trioxide electrochromic glass and many other smart glasses will be widely applied for energy saving reconstruction of building in the future, so it is necessary to do more in-depth researches on electrochromic materials.
