Tungsten and molybdenum items are widely used in a number of military applications, while there are few domestic suppliers in the United States. Elmet Technologies CEO Andy Nichols said in the release, is the only 100% U.S.-owned, fully integrated manufacturer of components using these metals.

Collins, a senior member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, said in a statement that ensuring the availability and technological superiority of tungsten heavy alloy and molybdenum products is an important national security imperative. As a leader in the production with decades of experience working with refractory metals, Elmet is well-positioned to supply our military.

Collins believes that the funding will allow Elmet Technologies to work with the US government to produce samples of the tungsten products required by the military and evaluate them to ensure that the funds needed for development are within the target.

The funding was awarded by the Department of Defense's Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program, which, according to Collins' office, helps the Pentagon prevent supply chain vulnerabilities and meet urgent operational needs. Collins successfully pushed the plan to add $ 10 million, especially in the rare metal manufacturing process.
