Tungsten Ore Activator – Lead Nitrate

In flotation mineral slurry, activator distribution is important for flotation. Metal ion attached on the surface of mineral can improve its electric potential, ion collector and targeted mineral can function better.

Lead nitrate is the most widely used tungsten ore activator, it can promote function of collector and standard of flotation. Its appearance is white cubic or monoclinic crystal, is hard and bright, soluble in water and toxic.

Lead nitrate has strong activating ability for both concentrate and scheelite. Study shows that use lead nitrate as activator to process flotation experiment toward wolframite slime with WO3 grade 1.62%, obtained concentrate is with WO3 66% and recovery rate 91%. The results show that Pb2+ and Pb(OH) + are the main components of activation at pH less than 9.5, and lead nitrate can make the electric potential on surface of tungsten concentrate from negative into positive, and the adsorption of lead ions on the surface of the wolframide promotes the effect of the anionic collector.
