Famous tungsten mine - Mittersill Scheelite Mine in Austria is the biggest tungsten scheelite mine in Europe, it locates in the Alps, 3 miles in the southwest of Vienna, yearly mining amount is 400 thousand tons, yearly produced tungsten amount is 1800 tons. The mine is 10 miles away from the north of Mittersill town, that’s how it name comes from.

Mittersill Scheelite Mine was found in 1972. When local scientists checked precipitants in river by UV light, they discovered calcium tungstate in Felber River. Finally they found tungsten scheelite deposit. In 1973, Austria geologists found mine head on the 1900m mountain, then they started exploration, Mittersill Scheelite Mine was settled.

Mittersill Scheelite Mine was put into production in 1976, it started open pit firstly. After year 1986, underground mining was started. The mine is devided into two zones by Felber River, one is Ostfeld and the other is Westfeld. The length is 2500m, vertical depth is 1300m, estimated ore reserve is 5 million tons, ore grade is 0.5%, WO3 reserve is 25 thousand tons.

To date, Mittersill Scheelite Mine is producing steadily, even in those years when international tungsten price is sluggish. It is due to the manufacture of Mittersill Scheelite Mine is a renowned alloy producer, they mainly produce products with high added value. As a result, the explored tungsten mine is used by them. So it won’t be effected by the changed tungsten market.
