In recent several decades, supported type of nano-catalyst has been widely used. However, the specific interaction between carrier and metal will affect the performance of the catalyst surface, therefore affecting its catalytic activity; besides, the relatively high price of nano-titanium dioxide results in the price of tungsten trioxide denitration catalyst remaining high. So, the development of a low-cost, but with high-performance of catalyst is necessary.

Palygorskite is a kind of hydrous magnesium aluminum silicate-rich clay mineral which has the chain layered structure; it is widely used in petroleum, chemicals, building materials, paper, medicine, agriculture ect., and also known as "land with one thousand, the king of the earth."
China is rich in palygorskite, because of its unique pore structure and high chemical stability, hydrophobicity, load the catalytic ability, etc., it can replace titanium dioxide as the carrier, and loaded with active ingredients of tungsten trioxide, vanadium pentoxide, has established heterosexual and better application potential. In addition, by using a multi-stage microscopic pore technology, the specific surface area of denitration catalyst can be increased, thus conducive to further enhance the denitration catalyst function, to make the denitration efficiency up to 90%. Since the carrier accounted for most of the mass of the catalyst, the lower price can effectively reduce flue gas denitrification initial investment and operating costs.
China has successfully developed palygorskite as a carrier, with the vanadium pentoxide, tungsten trioxide and other active ingredients loaded to produce denitration catalyst. In addition, the related report of palygorskite , zirconium dioxide replace titanium dioxide as the composite carrier to prepare 3-Way Catalytic Converter SCR denitration catalyst, and thus greatly reduce the costs.
