Radioactive substances can be used in nuclear research for manufacturing many powerful nuclear weapons, or be used in the medical treatment for many cancers, or be applied in industries for the mines detecting and so on. But in addition to this, there is another application of radioactive substances, that is, to make a kind of bomb which seems simple but very powerful by polymerizing the different radioactive substances together, that are commonly known as dirty bombs.
The dirty bombs are usually made of the powdered or globular radioactive substances of Sr-90, Cs-137 and Co-60, it does great harms to the human beings and the surrounding environment by the scattered radioactive powders that explored by Sr-90, Cs-137 and Co-60, if serious enough, it can cause casualties. In view of this, the dirty bombs are more destructive than the ordinary bombs, and the subsequent radiation pollution problem caused by dirty bombs will be difficult to be eliminated. Although the dirty bombs do not have the property of nuclear explosion as nuclear weapons, but the dirty bombs have the same radioactive dust pollution problem with nuclear weapons, for which will cause catastrophic damage to human living environment and human beings’ life safety. Therefore, we must not use the dirty bombs, it can use the tungsten alloy shielding container for storing the unused dirty bombs.
