Tungsten Radiation Shielding for Cobalt 60

Cobalt 60 is a synthetic radioactive isotope of cobalt with a half-life of 5.2714 years. It can emit 315KeV high speed electronic and two beams of gamma rays through beta decay. The main β-decay transitions are shown. The probability for population of the middle energy level of 2.1 MeV by β-decay is 0.0022%, with a maximum energy of 665.26 keV.

Due to its high density and excellent absorption behaviour against electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays and gamma-radiation, tungsten alloy can be widely used in cobalt 60 tungsten radiation shielding to protect the damage from Co 60 radiation. Cobalt 60 tungsten radiation shielding can be used in industrial of radiography,medical radiotherapy,and food irradiation and blood irradiation.
