Why Use Tungsten as Insert in Golf Club

If you're talking about a club created completely of tungsten, it's not a good idea. Tungsten is pretty heavy; if a club head is made entirely of it, it may make it too unwieldy for most golfers. The swing weights would be crazy heavy. To bring it back to a normal weight, it'd have to be smaller, which is also not a good idea.

This is why many companies use it as an insert. Years back, a few companies were experimenting with titanium irons. If they were to be normal weight, they'd have to be huge; keeping them a standard size meant they'd be too light. Enter tungsten: strategically placed in the lower portion of the cavity, it could normalize the head weight while lowering the center of gravity location.
