At present, the most commonly used γ-ray shielding materials are lead alloys, but lead alloys have secondary toughening radiation and are toxic, so their application is limited to a certain extent. Tungsten alloy such as W90Ni10 alloy is a non-toxic, environmentally-friendly gamma ray shielding material.

Currently, tungsten-based alloys are mostly prepared by powder metallurgy, but powder metallurgy requires the use of molds and has strict requirements on the purity and particle size of powder. In this regard, some experts have proposed a liquid phase sintering method combining hydrogen furnace and laser sintering to prepare W90Ni10 alloy without using molds at a faster speed, which has very important practical significance for preparation of tungsten alloys.
