Ray Shielding Material: Tungsten-based Composite Material

As a ray shielding material, tungsten-based composite material does not have the disadvantages of secondary toughening radiation, low hardness, and toxicity that exist in lead alloys and lead-containing glasses. Therefore, tungsten-based composite material is regarded as a potential substitute for lead to be used in medical shielding.

In this regard, some experts have proposed a method for preparing tungsten-based composite material with good ray shielding properties, physical and mechanical properties, which includes the following steps: prepare raw material; prepare stuffing mix; rubber compounding; extrusion calendering; vulcanization forming, and other steps. The tungsten-based composite material contains the following components: tungsten powder (200-2000 parts by weight); tungsten fiber (0.5-50 parts by weight); rubber (100 parts by weight); barite powder (0.5-150 parts by weight) and/or rare earth oxide powder (0.5-250 parts by weight); compatibilizer (0.5-6 parts by weight); activator (3-9 parts by weight); plasticizer (0.5-50 parts by weight); anti-aging agent (0.5-3 parts by weight); scorch inhibitor (0.05-0.5 parts by weight) parts); vulcanization accelerator (0.5-3 parts by weight); vulcanization agent (0.5-3 parts by weight).
