Heat Insulation Film of W18O49

As an oxide of tungsten, W18O49 not only has fine visible light transmittance, but good near-infrared shielding ability. Therefore, it can be used to prepare heat insulation film for building window and automobile window.

W18O49 nanorod can be successfully prepared by solvothermal method, using tungsten chloride, absolute ethanol, oleic acid and oleamine as raw materials. During the preparation process, absolute ethanol is used as solvent. And oleic acid and oleamine are used as surfactant.

The selection of surfactant has an effect on the crystallinity and crystal size of W18O49. When oleic acid is used as surfactant, the prepared W18O49 nanorod has a length of about 100 nm and a diameter of about 5 nm. When oleic acid and oleamine are both used as surfactant, the length of prepared W18O49 nanorod is about 100 nm. And the diameter of W18O49 nanorod is about 5 nm.

These two sizes of W18O49 nanorods have good absorbing ability of near-infrared light. However, W18O49 nanorod with the smaller size has better absorbing ability of near-infrared light.

In addition, the two sizes of W18O49 nanorods have strong ability in photothermal conversion. Experiments show that dispersion of chloroform and W18O49 nanorod with the smaller size has higher temperature rise than the dispersion of chloroform and W18O49 nanorod with the larger size, after they are irradiated by 980 nm laser (0.6 W/cm2) for 5 minutes. In this point, W18O49 nanorod with the smaller size has stronger ability in photothermal conversion.

As W18O49 has good absorbing ability of near-infrared light and strong ability in photothermal conversion, it is an ideal material for preparing heat insulation film for building window and automobile window. The heat insulation films prepared from W18O49 has good performance. They can be widely used in building windows and automobile windows, so as to save energy to the greatest extent.
