Nano Violet Tungsten Oxide Used in Cancer Treatment

Nano violet tungsten oxide has strong absorbing ability of near-infrared light. Therefore, it can be used as a kind of photothermal conversion material. And it has high application value in cancer treatment.

How to prepare nano violet tungsten oxide? Here is the specific preparation process as following as:

1. 0.35g WCl6 is stirred in a high-pressure reactor with a volume of 100ml.

2. 24 ml anhydrous ethanol is added. Under normal stirring conditions, 56 ml PEG400 is added. Then the mixture is stirred for half an hour.

3. The mixture is transferred into the high-pressure reactor. And the reaction is carried out at 180°C for 24 hours.

4. After the reaction, the mixture is separated centrifugally. And nano violet tungsten oxide (WO2.72) is successfully prepared.

The prepared nano violet tungsten oxide can be well dispersed in water and has strong absorbing ability of near-infrared light. Under the excitation of 980 nm laser with low power (0.72 W/cm2), nano violet tungsten oxide (0.25-3 mg/ml) can absorb 980 nm laser and generate heat effectively, rising the temperature by 12.2-41.2°C in 5 minutes.

Researchers injected this kind of nano material into the tumor of the sick mouse, and then the tumor of the mouse was irradiated by laser. After 10 minutes of laser irradiation, the mouse was killed by anesthetics, and then the tumor was taken and sealed in paraffin wax. The tumor was sliced and stained with hematoxylin eosin staining solution, which is mainly used for staining cell tissues. With the observation of inverted fluorescence microscopy, the tumor cells were completely ablated.
