How to Prepare Nano Violet Tungsten Oxide?

Nano violet tungsten oxide (WO2.72) with size less than 10 nm can be synthesized by alcoholysis and heat treatment. Compared with other forms, nano-sized violet tungsten oxide has better photocatalytic performance. It is a kind of photocatalysis material with high efficiency.

Since photocatalytic decomposition of water had been found on T12 electrode in 1970s, semiconductor catalyst has attracted wide attention due to its wide application prospect in solar energy collection.

WO3-x with a band gap of 2.4-3.0 eV is considered as an important n-type semiconductor. It has been applied successfully in gas sensors, electrochromic devices and photocatalysts. Among all oxides of tungsten, monoclinic violet tungsten oxide (WO2.72) has attracted much attention due to its unique oxygen defect structure and strong absorption of near-infrared light.

For semiconductors, morphology control is an effective strategy to change their photocatalytic performance. So far, WO2.72 samples with various shapes (such as nanowires, nanorods and nanosheets) have been successfully synthesized and used as semiconductor photocatalysts. Compared with bulk materials, nanoparticles usually have higher specific surface area and stronger adsorption capacity for reactants, both of which are good for photocatalysis. Therefore, it is important to find a simple method to prepare nano violet tungsten oxide (WO2.72) and make it better applied in the field of photocatalysis.

It has been shown that nano violet tungsten oxide (WO2.72) with size less than 10 nm can be synthesized by alcoholysis and heat treatment.

Alcoholysis

The decomposition of ester, acyl chloride, anhydride, amide, nitrile and other compounds under the action of alcohol. A new ester and a new alcohol are obtained by alcoholysis of ester. Ester and hydrogen chloride are obtained by alcoholysis of acyl chloride. And ester and carboxylic acid are obtained by alcoholysis of anhydrides.

Heat Treatment

A kind of metal hot working process in which materials are heated, insulated and cooled in solid state to obtain the desired structure and properties.
