How to Prepare Tungsten Disulfide Lubricant for Isothermal Forging?

To prepare tungsten disulfide lubricant for isothermal forging, three steps are needed: take the compositions of emulsion according to proportion, disperse the compositions uniformly and add nano tungsten disulfide into the emulsion. The preparation process is strict but easy.

Tungsten disulfide lubricant for isothermal forging, a new kind of lubricating material, is formed by adding nano tungsten disulfide to emulsion. It has high application value in the isothermal forging of aluminium alloy parts.

The preparation of the lubricant involves the following steps:

Step One: Take the compositions of emulsion according to proportion.

Base oil, surfactant and friction modifier (oiliness agent) constitute the compositions of emulsion. Among them, surfactant is made from Tween-80, Span-80 and OP-10(the mass ratio is 43:43:14). PA06 is used as base oil. And oiliness agent is formed by mixing oleic acid and triethanolamine. The mass ratio is 3:1.Taking the wettability, stability and lubricity of emulsion into consideration, the prescription mode of the lubricant is decided as 5.0% base oil PA06, 2.0% surfactant, 2.0% oiliness agent, 0.5% water-based tackifier, 0.5% rust-proof agent and 90% water.

Step Two: Disperse the compositions uniformly.

Keep the temperature between 20°C and 40°C. Oiliness agent(2.0%), water-based tackifier(0.5% ) and rust-proof agent(0.5%) are added into the base oil PA06 in turn. Then turn on the magnetic stirrer and the mixture is stirred in it for 5 minutes (stirring speed is 800r/min). The compositions are dispersed uniformly in this way.

Step Three: Add nano tungsten disulfide into the emulsion to obtain the lubricant.

During the Step Two, nano tungsten disulfide is dispersed in water. When the stir is finished, it is added into the emulsion slowly. The new mixture is stirred for 15 minutes. Then turn on the ultrasonic wave (the frequency is 20±0.5 kHz) and the mixture is stirred again for 120 seconds. When the stir is completed, the lubricant is prepared successfully.
