How to Prepare Tungsten Carbide / Polyaniline Composites

Tungsten carbide has good electrocatalytic activity, electrochemical stability, high strength, strong oxidation resistance and good conductivity and thermal conductivity. Tungsten carbide and platinum metal have similar surface electronic structure. Tungsten carbide as a potential substitute for platinum noble metal catalytic materials has been widely studied. This tungsten carbide/polyaniline composite can be used as electrode materials and secondary batteries. And catalytic materials. The following steps are needed to compound tungsten carbide with polyaniline:

(1)preparation of tungsten carbide seed particles: dispersing 0.235g tungsten carbide into 25mL water, adding 0.1g polyvinyl alcohol, and heating up to 60 degrees centigrade, stirring for 0.5 hours, then transferring to ultrasonic dispersion for 30 minutes, then WC emulsion can be obtained.

(2) swelling of aniline monomer in tungsten carbide particles: adding 4.7G aniline into 25mL water, dispersing and stirring for 15 minutes after ultrasonic dispersing, adding tungsten carbide emulsion obtained by step 1, continuing ultrasonic dispersion and stirring for 30 minutes, and obtaining mixed emulsion.

Aniline is formed on the surface of tungsten carbide particles to form composite particles. Under the condition of magnetic stirring, the mixed emulsion produced in step 2 is transferred to the three neck bottle, the system is cooled to 15 degrees after ice bath, and then stirred for 15 minutes. Then the ammonium sulphate solution with 16mL concentration of 2.5mol/L is added at once, and the sulfuric acid solution with 40mL concentration of 1.25mol/L is added to the emulsion, and the system maintains 15 degrees Celsius. After 6 hours of reaction, the ice-water bath was withdrawn and the reaction was continued at room temperature for 6 hours. After the reaction, the filter cake was washed with 0.2 mol/L sulfuric acid solution and distilled water, until the upper solution became colorless and transparent. The filter cake was vacuum-dried at 60 for 12 hours to obtain powdered samples with dark green appearance. The core-shell structure of tungsten carbide/conductive polyphenyl was observed under transmission electron microscopy. The conductivity of amine composite particles is 3.24S/cm.

Tungsten carbide is used to replace the complex of precious metals and polyaniline. Tungsten carbide particles treated by simple surface treatment can be well dispersed in dispersed media, which makes the final product have high conductivity, good stability, good electrochemical performance and catalytic activity, and low cost.
