Enhancing the Adhesion Ability of Tungsten Disulfide Lubricant

Tungsten disulfide (WS2) is a hard\dry lubricant with characteristics similar to graphite. It has excellent high temperature resistance and extreme pressure resistance. It has good attach to metal surfaces and low thermal conductivity. WS2 was first applied to the lubrication of key parts of the Mariner project’s spacecraft. What’s more, it was used to prepare high temperature resistant grease and engine oil.

However, the lubricant has poor adhesion to metal. So it is easy to expose the metal surface. At the same time, it has poor suspension and slow film formation rate. It is prone to precipitation, and the surface protection properties of the metal also need to be improved.

As a technical improvement program, the researchers proposed a method for preparing a heat-resistant water-based nanometer tungsten disulfide lubricant. The following steps are:

(1) Dissolve the silane coupling agent kh560 in water. stir evenly and add nano-tungsten disulfide, nano-tungsten trioxide. Next, have an ultrasonically stir evenly, then add nano-carbon spheres, and stir evenly to obtain a mixture;

(2) Mixing the polyalphaolefin PAO with the nano bentonite. Add with Span-80, nano montmorillonite, polystyrene quaternary ammonium salt, and stirring uniformly to obtain a mixture;

(3) Mix the mictures obtained in steps (1) and (2), stir evenly, add butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, heat at 67-72 ° C, stir the reaction for 30-40 minutes, and then add other remaining Ingredients, continue to stir the reaction for 20-30 minutes. Finnaly the lubricant is obtained.

This proces improves the suspension of lubricant by using nano bentonite and acrylate. It has no agglomeration and turbid precipitation in 72 hours, improves the adhesion with metal, reduces pores, prevents crushing of workpieces, and reduces the use of nano carbon spheres. The reaction of tungsten disulfide with metal improves the durability of lubrication; by using nano montmorillonite, polyalkylene glycol, nano tungsten trioxide, polystyrene quaternary ammonium salt, the dispersion stability of lubricating fluid is improved, and The metal has good physical adsorption, can quickly attach on the metal surface to form a uniform protective film, improve lubricity, and maintain good lubricity at high temperature.
