Cutting-Tool Wear in The Green Process

The cutting-tool wear exists in the green process, if not controlled will seriously affect the processing performance of the tungsten carbide. At the same time, the cutting-tool wear, the average width of damage and surface finish are the three main parts of the green processing performance of tungsten carbide.

1, Type of Cutting-Tool Wear
In the machine work of green-pressing, cutting-tool wear is mainly composed of hard point wear and adhesive wear. The tool of hard wear refers to the green materials in the hard spots in the tool on the surface abrasion caused by mechanical wear out grooves. Adhesive wear means that the tool produces plastic deformation at a certain pressure and temperature, forming sticky nodes, thus forming adhesive wear.

2, Influence Factor of Cutting-Tool Wear
The machine work of the tungsten carbide showed that the effect of tool wear is mainly affected by the cutting speed and feed rate. It is generally believed that the lower feed rate can reduce tool wear, but in the process of machining, it is found that the low feed rate will make the tool wear earlier and edge passivation.

When the feed rate is high, the tool wear is reduced due to less time to remove a certain billet. It is known that the average breakage width is mainly affected by feed rate and cutting tool. For the new tool, the lower feed rate causes a smaller edge breakage.

However, with the continuous cutting tool edge is deteriorating rapidly, the increase of tool wear and the green parts of the damaged edge width increase. It is better to choose the lower feed rate. In the case of cutting a lot of blanks, it is better to use a higher feed rate to reduce the total wear of the tool to ensure the sharpness of the tool edge.
