Fishing sinker can increase the diving and anchoring force, and throwing distance. The main types of fishing sinker are sea pole, hand pole and throwing weight heavy fishing sinkers.

Sea pole fishing sinker, also known as big fishing sinker, is mainly used for sea fishing. There are various types of big fishing sinkers, such as lead casting, tin casting, and tungsten alloy casting, etc. Their length is 6 - 7 cm, and maximum diameter is 1 cm. They are spindle shaped or gourd shaped, and the weight is 50 - 100 grams, while the weight of body are fixed. Sea pole fishing sinker generally used for long shot fishing. It is divided into live sinker and dead sinker. Live sinker’s center part is hollow line, which can slide freely after wiring, and most can be used with a variety of hooks, hook in front, sinker behind. Dead sinker has no hollow part. Its tail has metal ring which is easy to wire. Sinker is in front while hook is behind. Most fish traps are dead sinkers.

 

All hand pole fishing sinkers are dead sinker. According to the float, the weight of sinker is 0.5-2 grams. Some special fishing methods do not used fishing sinkers, such as fishing arch, coastal fishing for catfish. Mung bean lead sinker is mostly used, which is caught in the 5-7 cm above the hook, it can be used with single hook and double hooks.

 

Throwing weight heavy fishing sinker is similar to sea pole fishing sinker, but the former is heavier so that the centrifugal force and inertia force can be larger when throwing weight. Therefore, most people would choose 80-120 grams of heavy fishing sinker. When tying sinker, a connector which is able to rotate can be added between the sinker and the main line, so that not only is it easier to disassemble, but also the twisted fishing line can automatically returned to the original position.

 

Traditional fishing sinkers are usually made of lead, but in recent years, tungsten alloy has increasingly been used for fishing sinkers because of its high density, small size, and environmental friendly. New tungsten alloy fishing sinker is the most commonly used fishing sinker. Compared with lead fishing sinker, tungsten alloy fishing sinker will feel better, has higher hook rate, and it’s more popular, for its high density, stronger wind resistance.
