Violet Tungsten Oxide Chemical Property

Violet tungsten oxide is short for VTO, is named for its violet appearance. It is the common recognized best material for producing ultra fine or nano grade tungsten powder in the industry. Violet tungsten oxide is mainly used to produce tungsten metal powder and tungsten carbide powder, as well as gas sensor testing equipment.

Violet tungsten oxide physical property decides quality in producing super fine tungsten carbide powder and tungsten powder. Its chemical property decides it producing effect. It is insoluble in water or ethanol. Since oxides of tungsten is acidic oxidation material, so VTO is soluble in alkali solution. Besides that, VTO is not suitable for doping.

Violet tungsten oxide is prepared by high purity APT reacting in argon gas, and then deoxidized the VTO, then produce into tungsten powder granule. (Purity: 99.99%). Tungsten powder will oxidized in the air, hydrogen reduction of violet tungsten oxide starts on the surface of polymer as well as inside part.

Violet tungsten oxide has high thermal stability, its producing temperature stays between 790~850℃. In this range, the entrance of inert gas in reducing furnace and escape of steam will make VTO grain more uniform and the synthesis speed is faster.

VTO has high chemical activity, can make better fine tungsten powder with lower cost compared with YTO or BTO. Tungsten powder prepared by it is gas sensor material for testing NO2, has better choice than YTO, and gas sensing property also doubles. Therefore, it is proper for test of industrial waste gas and environmental polluting gas.
