Rare Earth Market - August 22, 2025

Rare earth market update on August 22, 2025

This week, the domestic molybdenum market has shown a steady upward trend, driven by multiple factors including tight raw material spot supply, downstream users' procurement primarily based on rigid demand, decent performance in steel mill tender prices, strong production cost support, and positive market expectations for future trends.

As a result, molybdenum mining companies have generally raised their quotes, further boosting the confidence of other molybdenum product suppliers to increase prices. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and molybdenum powder are approximately 4,470 yuan per ton-unit, 286,000 yuan per ton, and 500 yuan per kilogram, respectively.

According to CTIA GROUP LTD statistics, this week, the price of molybdenum concentrate increased by about 90 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 2.05%; the price of ferromolybdenum increased by about 6,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 2.14%; the price of molybdenum oxide increased by about 90 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 2.01%; the price of sodium molybdate increased by about 2,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 1.01%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate increased by about 7,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 2.65%; and the price of molybdenum powder increased by about 10 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 2.04%.

Amid the recent continuous rise in molybdenum raw material prices, molybdenum wire suppliers have recently issued notices to adjust the sales prices of molybdenum wire products. For instance, the tax-inclusive price of φ0.18mm wire-cutting molybdenum wire has been increased by 200 yuan per 10,000 meters, and the tax-inclusive price of φ0.39 modified drawn wire has been increased by 80 yuan per kilogram.

In terms of news, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s crude steel production in July 2025 was 79.658 million tons, decreased by 4.0% year-on-year; the cumulative crude steel production from January to July 2025 was 594.465 million tons, decreased by 3.1% year-on-year. Based on provincial data, from January to July 2025, Hebei ranked first with a production of 127.684 million tons; Jiangsu ranked second with 71.9523 million tons; and Shandong ranked third with 41.6246 million tons.
