Rare Earth Market - August 4, 2025

Rare earth market update on August 4, 2025

At the beginning of the week, the domestic rare earth market overall exhibited a sideways consolidation trend, with prices of praseodymium-neodymium metal, terbium oxide, and dysprosium oxide approximately at 645,000 yuan per ton, 7,140 yuan per kilogram, and 1,650,000 yuan per ton, respectively.

From the perspective of bullish factors, firstly, the limited capacity release by some rare earth manufacturers and downstream users’ primary reliance on rigid demand have strengthened the willingness of many suppliers to maintain firm quotes. Secondly, higher overseas rare earth prices and positive future expectations have generally reduced holders’ willingness to lower prices. From the perspective of bearish factors, the current high rare earth prices combined with relatively tight market liquidity have led to low downstream inquiry activity, resulting in subdued overall market enthusiasm.

In terms of news, according to the Shanghai Stock Exchange e-Interaction platform, an investor asked Northern Rare Earth whether it is true that its parent company, Baotou Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (Baogang Steel), secured a bid for the national historic mega-project involving over 62,000 tons of rare earth alloy steel for the Yarlung Zangbo River, which is expected to bring significant profits. In response, Northern Rare Earth confirmed on the interactive platform that the project is indeed real. This marks another instance of Baogang Steel’s high-quality steel products being utilized in a world-class "super project" in China. This successful bid follows the company’s previous contributions to major plateau projects such as the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Lalin Railway, and the Xizang Lalo Water Conservancy Hub and its supporting irrigation projects, representing another deep involvement in key national infrastructure construction in the Tibet region.
