Rare Earth Market - May 26, 2025

Rare earth market update on May 26, 2025

At the beginning of the week, the domestic rare earth market maintained a sideways trend, with downstream users primarily engaging in essential procurement and suppliers showing low willingness to offer discounts.

This resulted in a subdued trading atmosphere, with no significant changes in product prices. Today, May 26, 2025, the prices of praseodymium oxide, gadolinium oxide, and dysprosium oxide are approximately 448,000 yuan/ton, 166,000 yuan/ton, and 1,640,000 yuan/ton, respectively.

It is reported that China continues to tighten rare earth export controls, implementing a rare earth export licensing system with a "one batch, one license" approach. This requires a separate license for each export batch, with exporters mandated to provide detailed end-user information. This measure allows China to track the final destination of rare earths, identify downstream customers, and close regulatory gaps. However, it also suggests that the issue of tight overseas rare earth supply may persist in the short term. Nevertheless, according to Caixin, several companies had obtained rare earth export licenses as of May 18, 2025.

According to Baotou Statistical Bulletin, in the first four months of 2025, among the 30 products closely monitored in Baotou, the output of 14 products increased year-on-year. Notably, polycrystalline silicon output increased by 81.9%, monocrystalline silicon by 59%, rare earth compound output by 6.2%, single rare earth metal output by 9.4%, ferroalloy output by 65.5%, and aluminum output by 7.3%.
