Rare Earth Market Update-February 18, 2025

Rare earth market update on February 18, 2025

China's rare earth overall price fluctuates within a narrow range. With a relatively balanced supply-demand relationship and no major positive news released in the market, the trade negotiation atmosphere is somewhat stagnant, leading to low market trading enthusiasm and slow order growth.

Today, the prices of praseodymium oxide, erbium oxide, and dysprosium ferroalloy are stabilized at around 451,000 yuan/ton, 297,000 yuan/ton, and 1,700,000 yuan/ton respectively.

China Tungsten Online believes that the recent weakness in the rare-earth market is a normal phenomenon. Given that rare-earth prices have seen a significant increase in the past one or two weeks, downstream users currently have a strong aversion to high prices and are not eager to purchase. However, in the long-term, the rare-earth market is still expected to rebound.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in January 2025, China's automobile production and sales reached 2.45 million and 2.423 million units respectively, with output increasing by 1.7% year-on-year and sales volume decreasing by 0.6% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of new-energy vehicles reached 1.015 million and 0.944 million units respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 29% and 29.4%; the sales of new-energy vehicles accounted for 38.9% of the total sales of new cars. In January, the total automobile export volume was 470,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%. The export volume of new-energy vehicles reached 150,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 49.6%.
